Bonnie Logan, from Biggar, Saskatchewan, entertained the grade fours and fives with stories and songs on Friday, February 2.
Michael McCarty , from Los Angeles, was a bit hit with the grade two and three students on Thursday, February 1.
A Terrific Day of Storytelling
On February 1st 2007, the grade 2's and 3's went to the activity
room to listen to exciting stories from Mr. McCarty, a storyteller.
He is from Los Angeles, California. Mr. McCarty told us three folktales
from Africa. The stories come from Ghana, Liberia and Zimbabwe.
One story is a real story from Philadelphia, Pennslyvannia. The
Strange Creature was the first story that Mr. McCarty told us and
it has a horrible monster in that story. Anansi and the Moss Covered
Rock is the next story that Mr. McCarty told us. Anansi is a spider
that loves to eat and he likes to play tricks. The third story that
Mr. McCarty told us was A Thousand Miles to Freedom. The story was
black history and it is true. The last story that Mr. McCarty told
us was Anansi and the Spies. Mr. McCarty got 10 children to volunteer
in Ananci and the Spies. Mr. McCarty used lots of actions for all
the stories and he's probably not really serious. After Anancy and
the spies we had a Q and A. Q stands for Questions and A stands
for Answers. Maybe we will have another story telling day and it
will be on February 1st again! Do you think we will?

Story Telling
On Thursday my classmates and me
went to the activity room to hear stories. When we got to the activity
room I saw a brown man. His name was Mr. McCarty. He is from California.
His first story was called The Strange Creature. It's about a boy
who had an aunt that was so mean. She always yelled at the boy.
She hated the boy, so one day the aunt sent the boy to the woods
but the boy knew there was a strange creature there. The next store
is called Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock. It's about Anansi going
to the woods and found a strange looking moss covered rock but when
he said that, the moss covered rock hit him on the head! Could it
be magic? So he asked the animals and every animal got hit but the
deer. The deer did not get hit because she was watching Anansi.
The third story was called A Thousand Miles to Freedom. It was a
non-fiction story. It is about Black History and slavery. The last
story is about feasts and it was Anansi story too. The End!

On February 1, 2007, grade

Mr.McCarty was from Los Angeles, California. Mr.McCarty told
4 stories. Some stories are from West Africa, Ghana and Liberia
and some are from South Africa and Zimbabwe. There was a black history
that Mr.McCarty told it is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The
black history story was a non-fiction story. Mr. McCarty told
us 3 folktales. The stories were funny. I like the first story about
a boy who had a dad, mom and an auntie. The auntie was always
mean to the boy. Mr. McCarty used actions, voices and body to tell
stories the stories. Mr. McCarty was black. Mr.McCarty has a wife.
The black history story is caledl Run a Thousand Miles for Freedom.
I liked the third story too.

On Thursday, Feb 1, Mr. McCarty, a storyteller, told the grade two and threes four stories. The first one was called The Strange Creature. It's about a boy that was picking fruit. A bad breath came and the boy ran. The strange creature ran after the boy. Then the boy played his drum. The strange creature began to boogie. The second story was called Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock. Ananzi was so hot! He went into the woods. There he saw a moss-covered rock. As soon as Ananzi said the last work, the rock banged Ananzi's hea.

Mr. McCarty, I like the story of the Strange Creature. It was funny. I like the part whent he boy was playing his drum to get them out of the strange creature's tummy. He was a good storyteller.
