The Grade Seven Recorder Ensemble in Victoria

Friday, June 22 began early for the Grade Seven Recorder Ensemble. They met in the Norquay parking lot at 5:45 a.m. and headed for Tsawassen to catch the ferry. Just after 9:00  they parked their van at South Park School. Then they sang 'And Wherever You Go' for Mrs. St. Claire, a teacher at the school. Why? Well she is Mr. Colpitts' sister-in-law and she is retiring this year so we thought it would be a nice thing to do.  

We walked to the Royal BC Museum and watched the IMAX show, Titanica. After a close look through the IMAX gift shop, we started with the first floor od the museu, and then the second floor, and then the special Titanic exhibit. By 1:00 Karen was really ready for lunch, but we spend a half-hour in the Museum gift shop instead. Finally we went bac to the van, got our lunches and took them to Beacon Hill Park.  Later we went to the beach. It was a long, long walk along rocky beaches and up and down cliffs. Look at the rock towers we built. It was a contest - and, of course, Mr. Colpitts' was the best. Then he stood back and threw rocks at the towers until they were all knocked down.

At the end of the beach walk, there is a giant partly-submerged rock with a square hole in it.  This year the brave girls took off their shoes and waded out there and some go on top.  Ashley almost went out too far into the ocean. And Karen went inside the hole to keep a long tradition alive.

Ice cream was welcome after the long walk even if it did taste like butter. At 3:45 we left Victoria to catch the ferry at Swartz Bay. Almost everyone fell asleep on the bus - except Ms Adams, for she was driving. The ferry docked right on time and we arrived back at Norquay only three minutes behind schedule. It was a good day.
