A British Columbia Music Educators' Association Honour Ensemble
|
Ten Norquay students, Tiffany Tran, Karen Quan, Cheryl Sing,
Betty Cheng, Tammy Fung, Tina Yuan, Anne Li, Pauline Yeung, Jeanny
Cao and Cindy Hoang, were part of the Vancouver District Children's
Choir that performed at the Chan Centre at UBC on Friday, October
20, 2006. The choir was made up of sixty students from six
Vancouver schools: Norquay, Nootka, Renfrew, McBride, Osler and
Kerrisdale. The students were auditioned in the spring of
2006 and rehearsed with Mr. Colpitts and Ms. Smith in June. In
the summer vacation, they had their music and a CD of the music
to study. In September they practised almost every day leading up
to the area and full rehearsals, getting ready for the time when
they would finally meet their conductor, Ann MacDonald. They rehearsed
three days with Ms MacDonald and were well prepared ready for the
performance at the Chan Centre at the University of British Columbia.
Besides all the rehearsing, while they were waiting for the final rehearsal at Lord Byng Secondary School to begin, they decided to do a little community service and clean up a few thousand dangerous horse chestnuts from along a nearby street. Great singers and great citizens too!
