| This is the last stage of the interesting
fish known as the great salmon. This stage is called the spawning salmon.
The female spawning salmon uses her long beautiful tail to dig holes in
the gravel (called a redd) to desposit her lovely eggs. They usually born
2,000- 5,000 eggs. One or more male salmon fertilize the eggs by covering
them with a milky substance known as milt. When spawning is finally over,
the male and female salmon, hungry and really tired from a long hard journey,
die and slowly drift downstream. |
