On Friday, October 13th, Division
Two went on a special field trip to the BCSPCA. Since Division Two
was learning about ecosystem in Science, this trip helped us value
our interconnectedness with all animals that share our world.
Once we arrived by Skytrain we were greeted
by Ally, a staff member with the SPCA. She explained that the BCSPCA
is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for
animals, and that this organization provides a better life for homeless,
abused, and abandoned animals around the province, because animals
deserve protection and freedom from hunger, pain, distress and discomfort.
Then
we were ready to meet the animals. First, Ally led everybody inside
a closed chamber, where all the cats and kittens lay sheepishly
in the cages, looking at us curiously. Ally told us that these cats
were rather friendly with kids around them. There were also gerbils,
hamsters, and rabbits kept in separate rooms. We paced back and
forth by the cages excitedly, looking and playing with the adorable
animals for a while. Next, we were introduced to the dogs, which
were kept outside with each cage lined up beside another one, unlike
the cats. All the dogs welcomed us with hysterical barks and we
each ran toward our favorite ones. The dogs were in different sizes,
shapes, and colors. We took photos and had a lot of fun with them.
At around 2:30, we had to say
good-bye to our new friends and went back to school with our heads
filled with new thoughts.
