On Friday, April 7th, 2006, division
10 went to Beaver Creek to release the salmon. When we released
the salmon, they were only fry. There were about 49 Coho salmon
in total. Before we went to Beaver Creek, Miss Adams put all the
salmon into a green bucket with a lid (which looked like a mini
garbage can).
When division 10 arrived
to Beaver Creek, everyone had a turn to release a salmon into the
stream. Some of the students' parents helped us. The parents helped
by holding on to us while we were releasing the salmon into the
stream. Also, one of the parents helped put the salmon a clear,
plastic cup which was half way filled with water.
At
first Miss Adams explained to us how to release the salmon. Then
we tried to do it by ourselves. First we had to get close to the
stream to get some stream water into the plastic cup while the salmon
is still in it. This is so that the salmon can get used to the stream
water and survive. After we went away from the stream and waited
a minute. After a minute had past, we released the salmon into the
stream. When we released it, the cup had to be facing forwards so
that it would follow the current. And that was how we released the
salmon!
