Dear Families of Norquay Students,
As this school year comes to a close, so does my thirty years of work with the Vancouver School Board.  I will be retiring at the end ofJune.  I feel very fortunate to have completed my career at Norquay, an exceptional school with delightful children, caring families and a dedicated, talented staff.
Mrs. Vi Hughes, a highly experienced principal and gifted  educator, will be Norquay’s new principal.  She has asked me to convey to you how pleased she is to be coming to Norquay and that she is very much looking forward to meeting you and the students in September.
Thank you for the support you have given me in the past three years.  It has been a rewarding and satisfying experience for me to work with your children and with you, their supportive families.

                                                                                              Sincerely,
                                                                                             Ms. G. Wynston

STUDENTS NOT RETURNING IN SEPTEMBER
If your child is not returning to Norquay School after the summer break, please tell your child’s classroom teacher or our office so we can plan for next year.

STUDENTS RETURNING LATE IN SEPTEMBER
The school is able to hold a place for your child until September 30th, if you have filled in a Notice of Late Return form.  Otherwise, we wait until noon on Thursday, September 9 before releasing the space of a student who has not returned.

STUDENT STARS
Brandon Ham, Grade 6, will be a published author.  His short story, “Three Little Bunnies” will be published in the fall in an anthology of stories by young Canadians, Unicorns and U.F.O.’s.

Samantha Chenatte, Grade 7, participated in making the winning video in the BC Hydro Power Smart Movie-Making Program.  Samantha worked with a  group of Challenge Centre students to make the video.  The video was shown on TV and will be posted on the web at www.bchydro.com/moviemaking.

BOOK EXCHANGE
Our 12th annual Book Exchange was held last week.  Thanks to Mrs. Lane, the organizer, and many parent and community volunteers and those who donated books, it was a great success.  Over 6500 books were traded on the first day and over 1200 were  purchased for 25 cents on the second day.  The money will be used to buy more novels for next year’s Book Exchange.
