Ryan Lee's cousin could not breath. He had a piece of pear stuck in his windpipe. Fortunately, Ryan was there. Ryan had recently take the Saint John Ambulance lifesaving course with his grade four class. He knew that his cousin needed help and Ryan knew what to do! Administering abdominal thrusts, Ryan successfully dislodged the obstruction in his cousin's airway. Ryan saved his cousin's life. On Thursday, June 26, the last day of school, we had a group of special visitors at the school awards assembly. The Grand Master of the Masons of British Columbia presented Ryan with a plaque celebrating Ryan's quick-thinking action. Next, a representative from the St. John Ambulance Society presented Ryan with a framed certificate of recognition. Then Ryan was presented with a special St. John's ambulance shirt and hat. Congratulations, Ryan! |

The students in Division 9 and 10 also received a very special gift from the St. John Ambulance Society. Canadian astronaut, Julie Payette, flew on Space Shuttle Discovery from May 27 to June 6, 1999. She took with her some special pins that marked the 900th aniversary of the St. John Ambulance. Each student in Division 9 and 10 received one of these very special pins. Congratulations to you all!
