| Of all the teachers at John Norquay Elementary,
very few coach, or actually direct drama. Ms. Pawlikewich (pronounced "paw-lik-a-wich)
is one of the few.
This special teacher was the one who started drama at this school. She started sharing her acting skills at Norquay four years ago when her practicum started. Other than drama, Ms. Pawlikewich also teaches French. She told me us what she thought was a good director. The person has to look at what skills the actor already has and to try not to change them. He or she has to be able to see what they have to offer and combine it with their own ideas. She considers herself a good coach sometimes, but still has areas that she would like to improve in. Even though Ms. Pawlikewich doesn't actually teach an actual sport, she enjoys walking, swimming, riding her bike, and other solo activities. She wanted to become a director at Norquay because she wanted to bring this art to students. Another reason was the lack of drama in Norquay and this teacher knew that the students had lots of creativity. Her standard for a student would be that they are ready to work, and prepared to take chances. She encourages them to overcome their own fears, and trust in her and others. She believes that fun is the feeling you get when you accomplish something that you try out for. Ms. Pawlikewich bases much of her work on the philosophy that when you work though many problems, be persistent and you will be awarded with accomplishment. She thinks that drama brings us closer and makes us more conscious about our surroundings. I conclude that Ms. Pawlikewich, a unique individual, is a very excellent coach at Norquay. |
