The Beach

by Erin Siu, Grade 7, Div. 2

Down by the beach I walk
I see broken shells of different colors;
      Shimmering blue,
      Cinnabar red,
      Topaz brown,
      Pearly white.

I see remnants of crabs of different textures;
      Smooth,
      Rough,
      Parched,
      Slimy,
      Sun dried.

I hear seagulls overhead swooping down snatching fish, bickering and fighting in cacophony

A plane floats so gracefully in the sky.

I smell the slimy seaweed.

I taste the water
Its saltiness fills my body.

But the ocean pulls me away from everything
The ocean, the all-embracing ocean of life.

Wishes

by Jennifer Yao, Grade 5, Div. 6

I wish for my parents to be with me,
But they're in Shanghai working for money.

I wish for a special talent of my own,
But I know I must study hard for a long time to reach my goal.

I wish I was an eagle so I could soar the sky and dance in the clouds above,
But I know I can't change the way I am inside or out.

I wish for a secret garden of my own so I could grow special flowers for the ones I love,
But I know the soiled land of our apartment building is public and rocky.

I wish I could control the wind,
But I know I have no magical powers.

I wish that my grandparents will never leave me,
But I know that life is the way life is and it must go on that way.

I wish I could know my future,
But I'm not a fortune-teller and unexpected things will happen to me.

I wish for all these things and more to come true,
But I know my imagination is the best wish granter there is.

Anger

by Jared Chow, Grade 2, Div. 17

 Anger is red.
It sounds like thunder.
It smells like smoke.
It tastes like rotten milk.
It looks like lightning.
It feels like pain.
