Mr. Tim Zimich was a student at Norquay in the
1960's. In March 2006 he sent this note:
As I had mentioned, I haven't been back inside the
school since I finished grade 7 in 1967. I have many fond memories
from Norquay. Mr Knox was the janitor for years, and Mr Willander
was principal. I remember the assembly in front of the school when we
lowered the Union Jack and raised the Maple Leaf. I had a fond affection for our music teacher Miss
Beedom, Mrs McDonald, and also Miss Richter who married Mr
Saunders (another teacher). Miss Foster was the kindergarten teacher for
about a hundred years. Mrs Seagras (?) was the art teacher. Mr
Emerson (Australian) pictured with the baseball team was feared by all the
students. My mum (Joan Zimich) and her friend Elsie Whelan (Editor's note:
Mrs. Whelan volunteered and worked at Norquay for many years, through
the 1960's and 1970's) used to
cater in the lunchroom back then. My mum would drop me off into
Miss Foster's class starting from when I was 4 years old... so I spent 3 years
in kindergarten before "graduating" to grade one. Some of the names escape my memory, but may come
back. Looking at the baseball team picture, I recall on the top row, Robert Smith is at
the extreme left top corner with the big smile. Middle row at the
left is Ronnie Matusi. Not remembering the second fella in, but next is
Alan Kushner beside Mr. Emerson. To the right of Mr E, I can't recall the
next two fellows but I'm the short guy on the end (Tim Zimich). On either
side of the sign, holding the bats are Danny Fateaux (left) and Robert Gillies
(right) In the staff picture from 1961-1962 I can only
recognize Miss or Mrs Silver, third row up on the extreme left.. but I'm not
100%.
